This is what I’m thinking:
* Irv Weinstein has popped up on local television during the November sweeps on Channel 2 of all places.
That seems a bit odd since he became a legend on Channel 7.
The three-part series with Irv ends Tuesday morning on Channel 2′s “Daybreak.”
“It’s a bit odd,” agreed Channel 2 General Manager Jim Toellner. “But Irv is odd in that he is such an icon more than a decade after he left the air.”
A viewer can read anything he or she wants into Weinstein’s choice. Maybe it has something to do with his friendship with “Daybreak” co-anchor John Beard. Maybe it is because Channel 2 just asked him. Or maybe it’s because Irv wanted an audience and he wasn’t going to get it from his former station.
I must confess my teenage son found it quite amusing that I was touched by Sunday’s episode of the CBS reality series “Undercover Boss” that had a local angle.
The episode, which featured a top executive of the Subway chain going undercover in four stores including one tied to a Buffalo church, saw a spike in local ratings on Channel 4.
It averaged a 16.5 local rating, peaking with a rating of about 20 when the Buffalo portion of the episode ran near the end of the show.
The touching part came at the end when the executive gave the employees featured some new roles in the company and some personal rewards. However, the rewards of $5,000 in some cases seemed a little on the low side when you consider how successful Subway is and how much free positive advertising the episode gave the franchise business.
Can there be a moratorium on all the coverage of Sarah Palin? It is getting a bit much, with her reality show and new book giving her even more attention. By the way, the second episode of her TLC series had a healthy 2.2 rating locally, which was down only about 15 percent from the 2.6 of the premiere even though it ran opposite “Undercover Boss.”
