Amelia Segal’s last day at Channel 4 is Feb. 28, the day after the February sweeps end.
That’s the word from sources inside the CBS affiliate.
The same sources report that the meteorologist gave her notice Thursday. The morning weather anchor for “Wake Up!” has told colleagues that she has a job lined up but it is unclear where she will land.
Stilltalkintv has reported for a few weeks now that Segal was unhappy that she wasn’t able to leave in late December when she was offered a job in a bigger market, and was planning to leave as soon as she was free contractually.
She joined the station three years ago in March. Channel 4 has been advertising an opening for a meteorologist for more than a week now.

Alan, why dont you apply for the job?! You could do a Talkin TV segment too.
Oh boy, is it bad that i find it funny that Channel 4 propped her up so high just to be let down in this way? They basically booted Mike to the curb for this girl who really had to prove nothing to get the job. I guess they deserve what they get.
I think this puts WIVB way behind the eight-ball. They have competent yet boring anchors on Wake-up, and now the excellent meteorologist from that show is leaving. I think this puts them even closer to WKBW than it does to WGRZ. In fact, I have been watching WKBW in the morning and it really hasn’t been all that bad, and I prefer it to WIVB. If 4 finds itself as #3, the wounds were self-inflicted.
Note to WIVB management…treat your employees like humans…show them a little love every once and a while. You may be able to keep a few. Something tells me there is something rotting from the top…are there changes coming soon?
Why does everyone think when people who get jobs here must stay here? This backwater region is no place for a young person with a bright future. Our best days have long passed, sorry nothing left here except overpaid public sector people without the private sector workers to pay for them.
Let me be frank: the current employment situation makes it very unlikely that people will want to stay in Buffalo for more than a few years. All three stations already have at least two people that have been at their station for over a decade. That leaves less prominent weekend positions that generally only attract types that use the market as a stepping stone and quota/diversity hires.
About the only people that would be willing to do that kind of work and stay around are people from here. Channels 2 (Mary Beth Wrobel, Maria Genero) and 7 (all three of theirs have ties to the region) all have significant locally raised meteorologists. 4, amazingly, has none.
Wonder what Diana faibanks thinks about coming to buffalo now
A job in a big media market for tv people is like the Holy Grail. Of course Amelia was upset when they denied her the chance to have that. Yes Channel 4 invested in her but they were going to lose her anyway (as they do most of their newer hires) so why not do the right thing and just let her go when the opportunity was there for her?
Mike Cejka is probably rolling on the floor. Young female meteorologists are a dime a dozen. No loss
Please Mike C. is an em-bare-ass-ment. He is lucky to even have a job. Barry Lilis is still alive and available, not sure if your memory is long enough to know why he was let go.
Mike C may have some personal issues that are none of our business but he is one hell of a meteorologist who also has a great television personality. If we started snooping into the personal lives of many of the on air personalities who the hell knows what we would find so lets not be so quick to judge.
Tina I agree…some of the people running the station, including all the way to the top, have some serious skeletons!
Mike Cejka is a skilled meterologist. I have confidence in his forecasts and they are presented in a way that makes sense to non-weather geeks. I have no interest in anyone’s “personal issues”. Why target Mike C., everybody has personal issues. The question from a human resources point of view is to what extent does a personal issue effect job performance. There is no hint of that with Mike C.
I’m glad we can finally agree on something Steve. I knew it would happen eventually. Yes,if we started judging these people by what goes on in their personal lives it would be scary for sure.
Chris Musial and Joe Schlareth- when will you both learn to actually treat your people better? When you have consultants from LIN come in to find out why the employees are unhappy there, that’s when there is a problem at the top.
I think who ever picked and helped Amelia at channel 4 did a fantastic job and who ever that was will do it again! Some one knows what they are doing.
Good Luck Amelia!
Amelia is no big loss. Her robotic delivery, forced smile, and repetitive hand gestures had me tuning in elsewhere .
